Oh goodness gracious- those rolls! That paint! I cannot handle how sweet this baby painting session was! (insert heart-eyed emojis here <3 <3)

So the other day I received the book The Toddler Journefrom author Angela Thayer. I’m honored to be able to review the book for her and I have to say it is filled from cover to cover with easy, totally do-able, toddler friendly activities! It would make a great gift for any mom who needs some simple ways to keep her tot busy over summer vacation. The first activity we decided to do was make her edible finger paint recipe.

The supplies came from common kitchen items (flour, water, food coloring), and just took a couple minutes to whip up (see the full direction on page 22 of the book). I put the paint in baby food jars and sat Little Lady on white poster board so she could paint all around her. This made for some suuuuper cute pics!!

This was a great way to excite my toddler’s senses and let her explore art in a process-driven art activity (process art focuses on the joy of creating something, not on the finished product). That being said, this isn’t going to be the masterpiece I hang on my fridge- the paint is not meant to dry and be displayed. The activity is more for the process of exploring art rather than the final product (make sure to document when you do it, though! It makes for a great toddler photoshoot!! We used our Canon T5 for our photos).

I could have taken 100 pictures of this activity and it wouldn’t have been enough. Really. You can’t have enough pictures of baby rolls and messy painting sessions!

Our little lady was thrilled when she smeared the paint all over the poster board (and her body)! Her smile was a mile wide while she dipped her fingers and created her own colorful masterpiece.

Make sure to check out the book The Toddler Journey for more wonderful ideas just like this one!
